Consistently, over the years, the best of the income tax guides for individual taxpayers. Well documented with clear, complete and well-organized explanations of both simple and complex taxable transactions, along with summaries of court decisions on many of the more confusing aspects of tax law. I’ve been buying J.K. Lasser’s annual editions for over 20 years, and have never been sorry.

Surprisingly J.K. LASSER’S YOUR INCOME TAX should be annual reading for anyone interested in improving their financial lot in life. If you understand tax law, you might understand how you and your family might become wealthy if you did certain things and arranged your affairs so that the IRS approves of what you are doing. JK Lassser is one of the secrets to understanding wealth accumulation in the Untied States. Sure it might be boring but realize within the huge volume there maybe one or two gems where your circumstances in one year could be improved the next year if you took time to arrange your Federal and State tax affairs so you paid as Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said your fair and just amount of tax and no more. In other words, you could save money next year if you read JK Lasser this year. For a tax regulation book the book is so clearly written. It is in English! It is written for readers with a high school education. It has many examples explaining what the IRS means and shows you how to fill out the IRS forms so it pleases the IRS. I read it over even though I use TURBO-TAX to make sure I my circumstances this year are correct for Federal tax filing and to take advantage of what I might do next year.

As a tax preparer for more than 15 years, I order a Lasser’s guide each year to supplement my regular reference books such as the IRS Publication 17, Quickbooks Guide, etc. The index is clear, the chapters are organized and, best of all, it is written in plain English — not “tax-ese”. I regularly show my clients the corresponding section in Lasser’s to help explain a complex tax rule to them, and they have only given positive feedback about it.

JK Lasser is a reference for the non professional prepairing their own tax return. I use this volume and Turbotax to prepair my return over the past 25 years.

This is an excellent book to help make sense out of the tax laws. I have used J.K Lasser’s books for many years and have never been disappointed. One section on the college credits was apparently prepared before some changes were made and on the age for the American Hope credit that was left out.
